Microsoft Browser - Reba McEntire Style
The confrontation between Microsoft [NASDAQ:MSFT] and the
Department of Justice (DOJ) teamed with twenty state attorneys general didnt
cover the category of country and western music browser. Microsoft recently announced a
customized Internet Explorer (IE) for country and western singer Reba
McEntire.
The "Reba-customized" Internet Explorer 4.0 browser is part of an enhanced CD
called "If You See Him," based on a McEntire 12-song album with four new songs.
The album features two songs from her upcoming CBS television movie, "Forever
Love," scheduled to air in the fall of 1998. The songs are the title track of the
movie and "All This Time." It also features a reunion with Linda Davis (who
recorded the hit song, "Does He Love You" with Reba). This song, "Face To
Face," is part two of their former duet.
Along with the 12-song album, consumers will be able to access photos, screen savers,
videos, a behind-the- scenes coverage of a recent tour, reviews of the CD, additional
interactive features and personal interviews with the singer.
Starstruck Entertainment and Microsoft combined to produce a disk which includes
Internet technologies such as IE, Microsofts NetShow and links to Rebas World
Wide Web site.
"Shes made 27 albums, so my challenge was to give people something of Reba
they havent gotten before," co-producer, David Malloy said.
Users of the enhanced CD can also customize their desktop or opening screen with a
"RebaNews" active desktop component, which delivers news to the users
desktop and allows users access to special areas of the album site, such as the
"Spotlight," which contains an interactive music video and an interview with
Reba.
Beginning May 27, her enhanced CD will be promoted with a seven-day Web preview
offering daily releases about the production, each new song, and finally an online chat
with Reba. The CD will debut on June 2 with a $15 to $16 price tag.
