Advances in Video And Audio E-mail

Marketers may find sending their message by e-mail even more attractive with new capabilities from ImageMind Software.

Sending audio, graphics and video files through the Internet is not news to Internet users. Multimedia files can be attached to any e-mail message. But ImageMind Software’s new Video Express Email (VEMail) allows users to include multimedia files within an e-mail - which means a standard e-mail message can appear with pictures, voice messages and video in an almost presentation form.

John Cruz, president of ImageMind, said, "You can actually send a PowerPoint presentation or a multimedia slide show as an e-mail with our product and service."

Along with the ease of creating multimedia e-mail, VEMail "is also much faster than uploading an attached file," added Cruz. "Then on the receive side there is no download time at all. All VEMail appears as regular e-mail."

A VEMail sender must have the proprietary ImageMind software which is sent after registration at the company’s World Wide Web site (http://www.imagemind.com). For a monthly fee of $5, users can send unlimited multimedia e-mails. Users must also have a 28.8 kilobit per second or faster Internet connection to use VEMail.

Although, VEMail appears as an ordinary e-mail, the new system requires recipients to have a VEMail-player which is freely and widely distributed.

According to Cruz, VEMail works with Microsoft’s Internet mail, Netscape Mail, Eudora, Pegasus, America Online, Novell’s GroupWise and more.

VEMail is a Windows 95 and Windows NT product, with Macintosh and Unix versions planned for the near future, officials said.

Cruz also said VEMail, by eliminating attached files, reduces the chance of virus contamination which is widely spread by the transfer of attached files. More information is available at the company’s Web site.
