Order Credit Files Online

Consumers can now order a copy of their Equifax credit file while visiting the Los Angeles Times Web site at http://www.latimes.com, The Times and Equifax recently announced.

The "Autosource" and "Homesource" sections of the Web site contain links to a special Equifax on-line order form. Autosource and Homesource feature comprehensive collections of ads and information related to the buying and selling of cars and homes, respectively. This means that consumers can access classified listings for cars and homes and begin to research financing for them in the same place, at the same time. The credit file is mailed within 24 hours after ordering online.

"We want to give consumers access to the complete buying experience through our Web site," said Renee LaBran, The Times’ director of new business development and strategic planning.

"This is just one more way that we’re enhancing the usefulness of our Web site."

"Our goal at Equifax is to be as accessible as possible to consumers," said John T. Rougeou, president, Equifax North American Credit Services. "Through these links on the L.A. Times’ popular Web site, consumers can order their credit files on-line while they are considering a major purchase requiring financing and credit. Knowing your credit situation makes buying a car or home a more positive experience right from the start."

Equifax is the first credit information company to offer consumers on-line ordering capability. The on-line order form has been on Microsoft Network since August 1995, and has recently become available on Equifax’s home page. Information furnished on the form by the consumer is encrypted in the consumer’s computer and sent electronically to Equifax in Atlanta. There the request is decoded and the consumer’s credit file is mailed within 24 hours.
