New Mega Mall Kiosks With Personalized Maps and Messaging

The latest 28-acre Great Mall of the Great Plains built by the Glimcher Realty Trust in Kansas opens on August 1st will be the world’s largest. The eighteen-foot-tall interactive kiosks, which provide access to the MetroNet system at its main entrances, are also a world first. Using high resolution MPEG2-quality video on large 27" and 40" screens, shoppers will find an entertaining mix of comedy, mall information, educational content for kids, along with discount coupons and customized personal maps to help navigate the vast interior that houses over 160 retailers and amusements.

"Each store will have its own home page," Neal Weiner, Director of Marketing for AmeriMax Corporation, developer of MetroNet, told MWT. "What’s very interesting is the Mall Messaging System planned for the fourth quarter of this year. A shopper can leave a 30 second full-color, full-screen video message on the kiosk that is sorted by addressee’s name and can be password protected. Kids can find their parents, friends can tell each other what time they’ll be finished shopping," he added. All messages will be erased every night at midnight.
